What were you looking for in a venue?
We were looking for something with historic/rustic/industrial charm, but our budget wasn’t huge. After many days/weeks of looking online at venues we decided to book a tour to see the property in person.
In what order did you secure your wedding vendors and do you recommend other couples do the same?
The venue was the first thing that we looked at. We had no time or date or anything else picked. Mill 1 was actually the first venue that we went to see. After seeing the venue and finishing the tour we looked at each other and instantly wanted to book it. The venue suggested that we look at other venues just to ensure that we truly wanted to have the wedding at Mill 1, but we couldn’t even fathom the idea that a venue could be better than the one we had just seen.
What was it like having the ceremony in the same room as your reception?
We loved having the ceremony in the same room as the reception. At first we were worried that the space would be too cramped and awkward. It was not cramped or awkward at all. We and all of our guests loved not having to go outside for anything. No travel between the ceremony and reception. We got married in August, so it was nice to enjoy the air conditioning the entire time.
Which three photos are your favorites and why?
The shot of us showing off our rings {left} shows our personalities to a T. Same with the shot by the canal {below left}. We love the old charm and ivy in the shot of us in the archway {below right}.
What time of year did you choose for your wedding and why?
We chose an August wedding because we wanted a late summer wedding. We wanted to do it exactly in between our birthdays which are at the beginning of August and end of September.
In your experience, which wedding details are worth sweating?
Selecting the right vendors that will be there for you whenever you need them. Doing research on each vendor is essential to not only ensure that you like the product they provide, but also that you vibe on a personal level.
Which wedding details are NOT worth sweating?
The small details. Let the vendors take care of that for you. They are professionals that you chose for a reason. Let them take care of the services that you are paying them to take care of.
What special details of your celebration are most memorable to you?
Our ceremony was the most memorable thing I have experienced in my life. It feels corny to say but it was the most emotional moment that I have ever experienced. Our officiant was able to show our love and lives together in such a magical way in front of our friends and family. The night honestly flew by because of how well everything flowed and how happy we were spending our first five hours as husbands.
