What were you looking for in a venue and why did you choose Mill 1?
I was looking for something rustic with character and charm. I wanted it to feel a little dark and seasonal, but also something large enough to fit my guestlist. Mill 1 was perfect for my late fall wedding.
In what order did you secure your wedding vendors and do you recommend other couples do the same?
I actually chose a different venue first, and then I secured my flowers. While the first venue was beautiful, it didn’t feel like a good fit for me. I decided to start searching for something else, knowing that I would lose my deposit. It was well worth it as I don’t believe the other venue would have provided the same experience. After finding Mill 1, I looked through some of the preferred vendors. Longitude Catering was an easy pick for us. Their food was extraordinary.
What was it like having the ceremony in the same building as your reception?
We used the space in Mill 4 for our ceremony and I thought that it was perfect. It also allowed us to make an entrance to our other venue (with sparklers), I could not have loved that more! We got our favorite picture in the transition from Mill 4 to Mill 1!
Which three pictures are your favorites and why?
One was taken in Mill 3, 4th floor. It is my husband and I standing next to each other with the empty mill in the backdrop {left}. I was looking at him smiling, I loved how that moment was captured. Another was after our first dance during the reception {below left}. My absolute favorite was the one of Matt and I in the midst of the sparklers {below right}. I had that picture blown up and displayed in my home!
What time of year did you choose for your wedding and why?
We chose late November partially because we’re both teachers and we felt that near thanksgiving would give us the best chance to enjoy our wedding and take a little vacation after. I also chose it because I love the feel of Fall. It’s warm and comforting and inviting and I wanted our wedding to have that same feel.
Which wedding details are worth sweating?
Venue size, food, and DJ. You want to make sure you’ve got a venue that comfortably fits all of your guests. Food is huge, I’m so grateful we loved our caterer, and the guests raved about their meals. And DJ was big for us. We needed someone who could match our energy and get our guests out there having the best time possible.
Which wedding details are NOT worth sweating?
Honestly, none of them are worth sweating. When the day comes, don’t let any little thing weigh too heavily on you. That day is whatever you wish it to be, if you don’t allow yourself to be bothered by things that are out of your control you’ll be able to fully enjoy everything that day has to offer.
What special details of your celebration are most memorable to you?
From walking through the sparklers, to the wonderful incredible Speechless Strings Trio that we had playing through our ceremony/cocktail hour. It was all so wonderful. I miss that day!
